Spectrum Wireless, Inc. Releases
Generation 6 of Wireless IP Router
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 14, 2001--Spectrum Wireless,
Inc. today announced the release of Generation 6 of its business
class 2.4 GHz wireless IP router.
The Generation 6 router is a fully upgraded and improved version
of its previous Generation 4 router, runs at 100 MHz clock rate
with 11 Mbps data throughput, and is physically much smaller in
size. The use of a fan is not required as more efficient parts allow
for heat dissipation through the metal casing. The resulting form
factor equates to a much quieter and cost effective unit. The new
business model is especially suited for business class customers
and comes fully operational with Spectrum's Integrated Broadband
Operating System(TM) (IBOS(TM)) to include DHCP, NAT, firewall,
VPN, RIP and OSPF, and other customizable options.
Spectrum's previous Generation 4 model listed for $2400. As a
result of lower operating costs through more efficient manufacturing,
the retail price of the new Generation 6 business class wireless
router that offers scalable and cost-effective connectivity for
growing Internet Service Providers is now almost one-third the price
-- listing at $895 retail. The Company is at the forefront of transforming
wireless carrier architecture from best effort Ethernet bridging
to carrier class routing, enabling higher profits from high performance
Internet services.
"Upon careful observation of the variety of competitive solutions
available in the marketplace, it is clear to us that our new Generation
6 business class unit meets the objectives of service providers
who are looking for a robust and fully integrated, streamlined solution,"
said Charlie Cheng, Spectrum Wireless' VP of Engineering. "As
bridging is being replaced by routing, similar to the shift in wireline
where we saw intelligence move to the edge, Spectrum Wireless will
meet the market demand for intelligent devices. System operators
and their customers will benefit from enhanced services and greater
manageability of the network elements. We are extremely pleased
to be able to offer technology that is perfectly suited for IP routing
out to the edge."
