Spectrum Wireless, Inc.
Provides Service for 2001 Special Olympics World Winter Games
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 16, 2001--Spectrum Wireless,
Inc., a leading developer of wireless IP routers, today announced
the provisioning of service for the 2001 Special Olympics World
Winter Games, to take place March 4-11 in Anchorage, Alaska.
The agreement allows Spectrum Wireless to provide broadband wireless
access to a base site and three remote sites at Kincaid Park, site
of the Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing competition. The services
to Kincaid are made possible by Spectrum Wireless wireless
IP router and deployment system.
The entire operating area for the 2001 World Games consists of
approximately a 70-mile distance stretching from the north at Harry
J. McDonald Memorial Center in Eagle River, through the Anchorage
Bowl, and to the south at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood. The games
venue sites consist of six competitive sites, 10 hotels serving
as Olympic Villages, and several non-competitive sites. The vast
expanse of the city and outlying areas ordinarily creates a challenge
in setting up the WAN and LAN and Spectrum Wireless is one important
component in providing broadband connectivity in support of this
goal.
The games venue sites consist of six competitive sites, 10
hotels serving as Olympic Villages and several non-competitive sites.
Spectrum Wireless broadband wireless service equipment is
a major component in enabling the implementation of a WAN, in conjunction
with Mercury Data Group, Inc., that will bring all venue sites together
in one domain.
"Spectrum Wireless is thrilled to be able to support such a worthwhile
and joyful cause. Our passion for the human spirit is exemplified
by the efforts of these athletes who face daunting competition in
many parts of their lives. As technologists, business people and
members of the community, we look forward to seeing our broadband
access technology further these athletes dreams and ambitions,"
said Adam Sewall, Spectrum Wireless CEO.
